Coasteering is a guided adventure tour along the coastline. You will be guided at water level, which is called the impact zone, making your way along an area of coast. In order to navigate along the cliff base, you need to climb, scramble, jump into the water, and swim in the impact zone. This exploratory way of navigating around the coastline is a real adventure. You will be exposed to the waves and the elements, exploring caves and tunnels, cliff lines, and the depths of the water.

Our Guides know every corner of the route they will take you along; they know the depth at all given tides and where all the rocks, ledges and caves are. This enables the Coasteering Guide to take you on a safe, adventurous journey, which can be tailored to suit each individual's needs and ability. It is a challenge-by-choice activity which gives you the option to decide on whether you do any part of the route, such as jumps, going into caves etc. This makes it the perfect activity for mixed-ability groups. Challenge yourself with nature’s watery wonderland – fun, adventure and challenges – all enjoyed at your own pace.

Features of Coasteering: Wild swimming, cliff jumping from up to 10 metres, low-level rock climbing, deep water climbing challenges, swimming through caves, crawling through tunnels and sumps, playing in whirlpools, finding and seeing wildlife such as dolphins and seals, scrambling into hidden coves and beaches, working as a team to ensure everyone has a fantastic time. Your guide will take photos throughout the whole adventure.

Vertical Descents has developed coasteering routes all over Cornwall that are available on both low and high tide. It just depends on what you want. Generally, low tide coasteering trips bring wildlife and more caves to see, but maybe one or two fewer jumps; this is good if you want to explore the shore. High tide is all about jumping and moving water, the ultimate fun. No two trips are the same, even at the same location, due to the guides, tides, sea state, swell, wind direction and weather.
